I stayed in a comfortable job for 7 years and stopped growing

The pay was fine and the work was easy, so I coasted. When I finally interviewed elsewhere I realized my skills were years behind the market and I had no real accomplishments to point to.

Lesson learned

Comfort is expensive. Every year, make sure you are learning something that would matter to your next employer, not just your current one.
