I fell out with a neighbour and it made home hell
It started with a fence. He moved it maybe eighteen inches into what I was pretty sure was my side. I had a surveyor's report from when we bought the house, a four year old PDF I had to dig out from a folder in my email. I printed it, knocked on his door, and I thought that would be it. It wasn't. He had his own measurements, done by someone he knew, and he was not in any mood to discuss it. That was October, I remember because the leaves were already down and there was that wet smell in the air, and we were standing on his front path basically not listening to each other. After that things just got worse. Slow and grinding rather than dramatic. Parking slightly to block me. His radio on early Saturday mornings. Me taking photos of everything. My wife asking me to stop obsessing over it and me saying I wasn't.
You can be completely right about something and still make it worse. I was right about the fence, almost certainly. Didn't matter. I still spent a year dreading my own front door.
